In the 1970s, he operated a machine in a concrete pile factory. Although he was trained as a car mechanic, in this time of shortening working hours and a poor labor market, you didn&#8217;t have much to choose from. Yet you can hardly imagine a more loyal employee than him.<\/strong><\/p><p>He always got up at half past five in the morning to first pick up colleagues \u2013 guest workers from the city \u2013 with his staff van, was active in the staff association and always up for a joke to raise the atmosphere. But: he also had his heart on his sleeve. When he got upset about things that he thought were not good for the company or the staff, he didn&#8217;t hide his opinion. I can&#8217;t judge whether he was right or not, but at least he had a clear opinion and ideas about how the job could be better.<\/p><p>In every organization there are people like my father: in the factory, in the office, in secretariats or along the road. Employees who are genuinely concerned about things that could be done better, or see opportunities for growth. Sometimes the predicate &#8216;resistance&#8217; is given to it. This is often unjustified; you should only really worry if these people stop opening their mouths and drop out.<\/p><p>Occasionally my father was asked to &#8220;come up&#8221; in his blue overalls to explain his ideas to someone from the management. At home we always found that a bit exciting, but my father thought it was an honor and grew from such an invitation. Very occasionally such a conversation led to an adjustment of the planning or work. But the biggest effect of such a moment of listening was a proud employee, with even more heart for the cause.<\/p><p>Bringing together the thinking power of employees and management, each from its own role and point of view, therefore not only provides great opportunities, but also committed employees who see that their opinion matters.<\/p><p>Fortunately, we see that more and more managers stop sending and instruct, and increasingly determine the course for the future side by side with employees.
